Music on Main will kick off its 2014 season at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a free concert in Heritage Park in Denison. Denison-based classic rock band Stents will be performing during the opening concert of the season. The concert series, which is celebrating its tenth season, will feature concerts each week throughout the summer in Heritage Park.
“Music on Main is always a favorite time of the year, because people just like to get together and come listen to music in a casual atmosphere,” Denison Main Street Director Donna Dow said.
Dow said the concert series focuses on showcasing the talents of Texoma-based musicians and bands. She said when booking groups for the concert series, organizers looked for musicians from a variety of genres, but most bands can perform classic rock and country standards.
Stents, comprised of Joe Baumgardner and Rockie Tarkington, will be opening the series with the first concert on Friday. Baumgardner and Tarkington have been performing together since 1983, notably in Rockie & The Bullwinkles. The name Stents comes from the fact that both Baumgardner and Tarkington both have heart stents.
Other acts in the series include: After 5 Alibi performing on June 6, Shelley McBride & the River on June 13, BluRock with Tim Reunion on June 20, Little Big Iron with Guymon & McCann on June 27, Honky Tonk Kings on July 11, Rocky & the Bullwinkles on July 18 and Kirby Kelley on July 25.
