Creative Arts Center hosts fall activities


BONHAM - Theater workshops, art and drawing classes, art parties, an essay contest and a special performance are all set for this fall at the Creative Arts Center (CAC). The non-profit center is located at 200 West 5th Street in Bonham and is overseen by executive director, Lisa Avila.

Starting Sept. 2, the Kidz Krew Theater Workshop will begin meeting from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks. The workshop is for children age 10 and up and the cost is $75. On Wednesdays at 3:15 p.m., children ages 3 to 5 can learn about theater skills in Animal Cosplay (costume play). The class will meet for 30 minutes each Wednesday and the cost is $40. The Little Kidz Krew for children ages 6 to 9 will meet on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. and the cost is $45. Each of these workshops will culminate in a short performance on the final day of the workshop. Anne Genung will teach the workshops.

The Art in the Afternoon class for children of all ages will continue this fall with Katherine Kluger teaching the course. The class will meet from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. every Wednesday and the cost is $40 a month. Kluger also teaches the adult drawing class from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday. The art classes continue throughout the year. Children, teenagers and adults interested in any of the class can sign up at any time during the month.

A limited number of scholarships for children’s workshops and classes are available.

A “Selfie Collage Party,” junk sculpture and other interesting themes will be carried out in the Art on the Town art parties this fall. Details will be made available via the CAC website and in the Herald Democrat newspaper.

On Oct. 4 and 5, Gainesville attorney Sam F. Houston will present a one-man production on Sam Houston. He will be performing from “The Lion of Texas” which he authored. Tickets for the performance will be $10 for adults and $6 for students.

In conjunction with Houston’s performance, the CAC is sponsoring an essay contest, also entitled The Lion Of Texas. The contest is open to students of all ages. Details are available on the CAC website.
