HOWE – The Hope Center of Texoma, an outreach of Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin Counties, is offering a training seminar called The Last Walk for pastors and pastoral care lay representatives on March 6. The seminar will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home, 415 S. Collins Freeway, in Howe.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide tools enabling church pastors and elders, as well as lay representatives, to increase support for members of their church who are in the final days, weeks or months of life.
“Our final walk is a difficult part of our journey,” said Sherry Little, executive director of Home Hospice. “Sometimes we have fears and concerns and lack the resources to address those; this seminar can put information and resources into the hands of those we often ask to walk alongside us. Each participant goes home with an increased understanding and a notebook full of useable tools.”
Presenting at the seminar will be hospice-trained medical personnel, social workers, a chaplain and other professionals who will empower those in attendance to better work with families who are experiencing end-of-life needs. Some of the topics will include Maximizing a Good End-of-Life Experience, The End-Of-Life Process, End-of-Life Options, Grief for the Patient and Family, The Role of Spiritual Care, Self Care for Clergy & the Caregiver, and more.
“The Last Walk is an excellent opportunity for pastors, lay leaders, or those within the community to gain an understanding or to further their understanding in areas of grief, end of life, and the importance of self-care,” said Jerryd Wallace, chaplain at Home Hospice. “This is such a difficult part of life, but the goal of this program is to offer those who minister to people and families during this time the tools to help them do so with more confidence and assurance.”
The seminar is presented as a part of The Hope Center’s mission to provide education in the community. There is no cost to attend this seminar, but reservations are requested so that adequate materials may be prepared.
