Local dancers compete at Encore


OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — The competition team from Kristina’s Studio of Dance in Sherman took part in the recent Encore Performing Arts Showcase regional competition at Oklahoma City. A total of 25 studios from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas competed, performing more than 650 routines.

The team from Kristina’s earned three platinum awards, 10 high gold awards, three gold awards and three special judges’ awards. Twelve routines placed in the overall rankings included two first place, two second place, three fifth place, one seventh place, one eighth place and three 11th place awards.

Winning a platinum award and first place overall among junior division 2 lines was the age 11 jazz line. Members of the line are Kaylee Brand, Sarah Carr, Jacob Cherrier, Katey Cooper, Sarah Dardaganian, Braylee Edwards, Emma Fleming, Brittney Hampton, Kaylee Hampton, Kaytlyn Hensley, Jennah Herridge, Alaina Hooker, Chloe Koberowski, Trinity Lau, D’nai Massey, Anthony McKinney, Elizabeth Morgan, Kaitlyn Morgan, Bethany O’Neal, Leah Paveloff, Addison Sparks, Ashton Swift, Ella West, Emerson Williams and Payton Williams.

The age 9-10 jazz group earned a platinum award, placed fifth overall among the junior division 2 large groups and received the “Outstanding Choreography” award. Making up the line are Kaylee Brand, Alyssa Carr, Sarah Carr, Jacob Cherrier, Sarah Dardaganian, Braylee Edwards, Kaylee Hampton, Jennah Herridge, Alina Hooker, Chloe Koberowski, Trinity Lau, Kaitlyn Morgan, Addison Sparks, Ella West, Emerson Williams and Trinity Williams.

Earning a high gold and a “Totally Perfect” special judges’ award was the age 5-6 character group of Daisy Avery, Annalee Baker, Madison Brees, Kynlee Chalker, Ally Harris, Tabitha Hennessey, Maycee Jaresh, Gracie Randall and Trinity Williams.

Jacob Cherrier and Trinity Lau received a platinum award and second place overall among junior division 2 duets/trios with their age 9-10 jazz duet. The age 16-17 jazz duet of Emma Fleming and Leah Paveloff earned a high gold award and fifth place overall among senior division 2 duets/trios. Braylee Edwards, Kaitlyn Morgan and Emerson Williams earned a high gold award and second place overall among the petite division 2 duets/trios with their age 7-8 character trio performance.

The age 13-14 division 2 group of Katey Cooper, Brittney Hampton, Kaytlyn Hensley, D’nai Massey and Payton Williams earned a gold award for their jazz routine and a high gold award and 11th place overall among teen small groups for their lyrical routine.

The age 16-17 group of Emma Fleming, Anthony McKinney, Elizabeth Morgan, Bethany O’Neal, Leah Paveloff and Ashton Swift earned a high gold award and fifth place overall among senior division 2 small groups for their jazz routine, as well as the “Work Me Harder” special judges’ award. They earned a gold award and eighth place overall for their contemporary routine and a high gold award for their division 3 lyrical routine.

The age 16-17 character routine of Katey Cooper, Emma Fleming, Anthony McKinney, Elizabeth Morgan, Bethany O’Neal, Leah Paveloff and Ashton Swift received a gold award and seventh place overall among senior division 2 small groups.

Emerson Williams received a high gold award and first overall among petite division 2 solos for her age 7-8 jazz solo. Earning high gold awards were the age 11-12 division 2 jazz routine by Addison Sparks and the age 11-12 division 2 lyrical solo of Sarah Carr.

Soloist Karyssa Lott earned a platinum award and fifth place overall for her age 18-19 lyrical division 3 solo and a high gold award and 11th overall for her age 18-19 division 3 contemporary routine. She was also invited to be a member of the Encore Elite Dance Team at their national competition.
