Companies offer safe rides on New Year’s Eve

In an effort to prevent Texoma residents from getting behind the wheel drunk on New Year’s Eve, companies are offering free towing services as safe alternatives.

Adams Automotive of Van Alstyne is offering their “Adam’s Holiday Haul” for the fifth year in a row, said owner Larry Adams. Beginning at noon Tuesday, the company will go anywhere in Grayson County, give drivers a ride and tow their car up to 10 miles for free. Each mile after the first 10 miles is $2. The service ends at 10 p.m. Thursday. Those interested can call 903-482-5784.

The Adams Holiday Haul has proved successful in the past, Adams said. Last New Year’s Eve, the company provided 62 rides.

AAA will be offering a free complimentary tow of up to 10 miles to anyone, AAA customer or not, from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday, said AAA spokeswoman Denise Wolf. After the first 10 miles, the cost must be paid by the person receiving the service. The number for this service is 1-800-222-4357.
