HOWE — Residents are displaced after a fire severely damaged their house Wednesday morning in the 700 block of S. Maple Street in Howe.
Firefighters were notified of the fire at 8:18 a.m., said a Paul McConnell, a Howe firefighter. The occupants of the home were not present at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. McConnell said he did not know exactly how many people lived in the house.
Howe firefighters believe the fire started in the attic. Because the house was an older structure, the fire spread quickly, McConnell said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The house’s occupants will not be able to move back into the house because it received extensive fire and smoke damage. The structure will likely be bulldozed, McConnell said.
