Police don’t suspect foul play in death of 3-year-old Fannin County girl

WHITEWRIGHT — A three-year-old girl went missing Sunday in Whitewright, and was later found to have drowned in a neighbor’s pool. Fannin County Sheriff Donnie Foster said there is no evidence of foul play at this time.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a three-year-old girl was missing from her house, said Foster in a written release. Alyssa Stephens had been missing from a house on County Road 4300 for 30 minutes, and had last been seen in the house’s backyard. The yard is surrounded by a wooden privacy fence.

Fannin County Sheriff’s Office personnel, local firefighters, DPS troopers, Texas Parks and Wildlife officers, Texas Department of Corrections Canine officers with search dogs and several volunteers searched the house and the surrounding area without success.

Firefighters drained a neighbor’s swimming pool in an attempt to see beneath the murky water. A firefighter entered the water and found the girl’s body at the bottom of the pool.
