In an effort to help taxpayers avoid the hassle of having to wait in long lines to pay their property taxes, the Grayson County Tax Office is offering a new, one-day service. Taxpayers will be able to drop off property tax payments Friday from the convenience of their car. Tax office personnel will be stationed in the parking lot located across from the courthouse in Sherman, at the corner of Houston and Crockett to accept tax payments from 8 a.m. -5 p.m.
“We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for folks to pay their property taxes,” said Grayson County Tax Assessor-Collector Bruce Stidham. “Instead of having to search for a place to park, then waiting in line to pay your taxes, we’re making it more convenient by giving taxpayers the opportunity to stay in their car and drop their payment off at our drive-thru location.”
Stidham went on to say that each drive-thru taxpayer will receive a special card dated January 31st as the date their envelope was deposited in the drop-off box. Actual receipts for payments will be mailed the following week. “If a taxpayer doesn’t receive their receipt in the mail,” he continued, “the card lets us know to check and see that the payment was made and to mail out a new receipt.”
Only checks and money orders will be accepted at the drive-thru location. All payments must be in a sealed envelope with a return address clearly visible. Taxpayers can enter the parking lot from either Crockett or Houston Street.
