St. Emmanuel Church

DENISON — The St. Emmanuel Church choir will be selling fried catfish dinners in the church’s fellowship hall on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Christian Science Society

DENISON — The Christian Science Society, located at 927 W. Sears St., begins Sunday services and school at 10 a.m. Testimonies of healing are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 8 p.m.

The lesson for Sunday is “Soul” using scripture “…let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us:” Psalms 90:17 (to:). Services include hymns of praise and a Bible lesson. A vocal solo will be presented.

Sherwood Shores Chapel

GORDONVILLE — This Sunday, the sermon will use 1 John 3:4-6. The message is entitled “Sin is Lawlessness.” The reading will be from Psalm 89:38-52. A nursery is provided for the worship hour. The choir anthem will be “The Law of the Lord is Perfect.”

Sunday school is from 9:15 a.m. until 10 a.m. The adult class is studying the Gospel of Matthew. Following Sunday school at 10 a.m. is fellowship time with refreshments.

Pottsboro Church of Christ

POTTSBORO — The Pottsboro Church of Christ meets at 9 a.m. for Bible study with classes available for all ages. The worship service begins at 10 a.m. which includes a sermon, singing, prayer, taking the Lord’s Supper and giving. They also meet at 5 p.m. Their minister, Kevin Shemp, will bring the sermons at both services.

The church is collecting sweetened condensed milk and jello for the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home.

The ladies’ Bible class will resume on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10 a.m. Joyce Kent will teach the class.

Choctaw Creek Cowboy Church

SAVOY — The church is a western heritage fellowship which meets at 10 a.m. on Sundays for music, donuts and fellowship followed by worship music and Bible preaching at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The music is provided by the Choctaw Creek Cowboy Band.

Sunday’s Bible message is based upon John 14:1-14 titled ‘The Promise and the Way.’

The church and the friends of CCCC gather for a ‘Country Gospel Singing’ on every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Anyone may bring a musical instrument to play along.

On the fourth Friday at 3 p.m. a gospel music concert will be held at Victoria Gardens in Allen.

On the third Saturday at 7 p.m., there will be a community pickin’ and singing event at the Sadler Community Center. The 5th Sunday breakfast will be at 8 a.m. August 31 at Nick’s in Denison.

Tom Bean Church of Christ

TOM BEAN — The Tom Bean Church of Christ services begin each Sunday with Bible class for all ages at 9 a.m. and worship at 10 a.m. with congregational singing. The evening worship service begins at 6 p.m. The Lord’s Supper is given each Sunday. SHERMAN — The monthly discussion meeting of Red River District SGI-USA will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. The topic of discussion will be “The Four Universal Vows” from the August issue of “Living Buddhism.”

TIOGA — Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Tioga, Texas is having it’s annual homecoming service this Sunday August 17th. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. and worship service begins at 11 a.m.

Lakeway will host its 6th Annual Nasty & Crazy Olympics, a back to school youth event, primarily for middle schoolers and up, but elementary children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. As the name of the event implies, this is not an event for nice clothes. It is also not a contacts-friendly activity; glasses are OK; they can be cleaned. If you come, you might also want to bring a towel. Games in the past have included chocolate, shaving cream, Jello, water balloons, eggs, flour, and more. Participants may end up wearing at least some of these. There will be garden hoses to rinse off. Start time is 4 p.m. End time is about 6 p.m.

Red River Unitarian Universalist

DENISON — “Why Religion Is Still Necessary” is the topic of Dr. Elbert Hill’s sermon at 11:15 a.m. Sunday at Red River Unitarian Universalist Church. Based on a book by the Rev. Dr. Galen Gungerich, “God Revised: How Religion Must Evolve in a Scientific Age,” the talk will explore the idea that, even though the traditional idea of a supernatural God no longer works in the age of science, humans still need the concept of God, redefined, to make sense of a “world that still holds more mystery than answers.”

Dr. Hill is Emeritus Professor of English, Languages and Humanities at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the immediate past president of the RRUU congregation. Children’s Religious Education will also meet at 11:15 for a story and a craft project. At 10 a.m., Adult Forum will continue watching and discussing a Great Courses video series of lectures about the rise of world religions.

DENISON — The ladies’ prayer meeting on Tuesdays is at 10 - 11 a.m. As Corrie Ten Boom said, “Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.”

Also, on Wednesdays from July 23rd through Aug. 27th, there will be no children’s classes or nursery. The teachers are being given a summer break. They will come back on September 3rd.

There will be a new children’s ministries. The church will have a new class on Wednesday for tweens taught by Justin and Leslie LeMasters and also a new children’s class on Sundays and a new location for the children’s church.
