BOKCHITO, Okla. — James R. and Martha Avery of Bokchito, Okla., formerly of Denison, celebrated 50th years of marrage with a family gathering. A dinner was held Aug. 17 at Grandy’s Restaurant in Sherman, hosted by their daughter.
The Averys were married Aug. 23, 1963 at East Baptist Church in Denison by Wesley Hodge, church pastor. Attendants were James and Mary Alice West.
Martha Avery was born in Denison, the daughter of Ralph and Frances Moran. She attended Denison schools and is a homemaker and mother. She enjoys spending time with her family.
James Avery was born in Denison, the son of James W. Avery and Mary Elizabeth Avery. He attended Denison Schools and worked at Tommy’s Appliance, Spencer’s Furniture, the Denison Fire Department, Texoma Medical Center, Care inn and Calvary Baptist Church. He was a church minister for 44 years, serving in several churches, and is a ham radio operator.
Both are members of Jesus Name Apostolic Church.
The couple’s children are Kelley Weir and her husband, Kurt, Rodger Dale Avery and his wife, Brenda, Jasen Paul Avery and his wife, Patsy, the late James Warner Avery and his wife, Kristie Avery, all of Denison. They have 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
