Branson — 50th


Paul and Nancy Branson of Sherman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a family gathering in Ruidoso, New Mexico over the Christmas holidays.

The Bransons were married Dec. 29, 1961, at BrownTrail Church of Christ in Hurst, with Andrew Connally officiating. Maid of honor was Janet Whitton Wentworth and bridesmaids were Bobbie McElhanon Dunnavent, and Rosemary Watkins. June McElahanon Deaver and Janie Gunn Alexander were candlelighters, and Wade Dyer was best man.

Nancy Branson was born in Bonham, the daughter of Marvin and Rachel McElhanon. She attended Birdville High School in Haltom, and was employed by multiple school districts in Texas, retiring from the Sherman Independent School District where she served as a secretary in the administrative offices.

Paul Branson was born in Wichita Falls, the son of Bernie and Alta Branson. He attended Bowie High School in Bowie, received his bachelors degree from Abilene Christian College and his masters in education degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. He was employed as an athletic trainer and history teacher by multiple Texas school districts including Hurst Euless Bedford, Midland, Abilene, and Andrews.

Both are members of the Howe Church of Christ.

The Bransons have two sons, Leland Branson and his wife, Cathy, of Lubbock and Carlon Branson and his wife, Tina, of Canton. There are six grandchildren.
