Dewayne and Nancy Harris of Sherman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a gathering of family members and friends at the Finley Cultural Center in Sherman. Hosts were their children.
The Harrises were married Aug. 31, 1963 at Sunny Level United Methodist Church in Alexander City, Alabama. Officiating was the Rev. Jack Shelton.
Nancy Harris is the daughter of James Albert and Bessie Kerlin Eason. She graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Alabama. She worked for Russell Mills in the IBM Department, Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, and the Mt. Pleasant Independent School District.
Dewayne Harris is the son of Eddie and Clara Jones Harris of Jackson’s Gap, Alabama. He graduated from Clinch County High School in Homerville, Georgia, Brewton-Parker Junior College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia, and Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He was a credit manager for Swift Agricultural Chemical Co. in Virginia, Georgia, and Texas and was vice president of credit and collections for Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. in Pittsburg, Texas, retiring after 23 years of service.
Both are members of Lakeway United Methodist Church.
The Harris’ children are Mark and Dr. Kimberly Harris of Fairview and Dr. Brian and Stephanie Harris of Sherman. They have four grandchildren.
