Tom and Jerri Jarvis of Sherman were honored Aug. 10 for their 60th wedding anniversary. Family members and friends gathered in the couple’s home for hot dogs and homemade ice cream. Hosts were their children.
The Jarvises met in elementary school and were married Aug. 7, 1953 at the home of Jerri Jarvis’ sister. Officiating was the Rev. Ed Barcus. Maid of honor was Virginia McDonald of Orange and best man was Linous Jarvis, father of the groom.
Jerri Jarvis was born in Beaumont, the daughter of Mabel and Ernest Adams. The family moved to Sherman where she attended school and was a high school cheerleader.
Tom Jarvis was born in Carthage, the son of Linous and Ava Ora Jarvis. He attended Sherman schools and graduated from Austin College in 1956. He worked in Richardson and Atlanta before moving back to Sherman in 1970 to begin the family business, Texas Laundry, which is still operating today.
The Jarvises children are David, Bob and John Jarvis, all of Sherman, and Melissa Wortham of Dallas. There are 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
