VAN ALSTYNE — James “Jim” and Janet Martin of Van Alstyne were honored Sept. 21 with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. The gathering of family members and friends was held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Van Alstyne and was hosted by the couple’s children and grandchildren. The couple also took a cruise to Progresso and Cozumel, Mexico as part of their anniversary celebration.
The Martins were married Sept. 20, 1963 at New Hope Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Mack Pope. Maid of honor was Linda Tomberlin Null, sister of Janet Martin, and best man was Aubrey Martin, father of Jim Martin.
Janet Martin is the daughter of the late Noel and Della Tomberlin. She is a graduate of McKinney High School and was employed at Texas Instruments in Sherman and Sycro in McKinney.
Jim Martin is the son of the late Aubrey and Esta Martin. He graduated from Van Alstyne High School, attended North Texas State University and graduated from East Texas State University. He coached at Princeton, Gunter and Van Alstyne school districts, as well as serving as a school principal.
The Martins are members of the First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne and enjoy traveling, playing games and fishing.
The couple’s children are Michael Martin and his wife, Tina, of Sherman, Steven Martin and his wife, Alicia, of Farmersville, and Kevin Martin and his wife, Alice, of Trenton. They have several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
