BELLS — Harold and Doris Meek of Bells will be honored on Nov. 29 with a 70th wedding anniversary come-and-go reception. The celebration will be from 3 -7 p.m. at their home in Bells and is open to friends and family members.
The Meeks were married on Nov. 28, 1942 in Durant, Okla. at the home of a Methodist minister. Attending were Lee Clarkston and Mary Jo Reeder.
Doris Ethelyn Keller Meek was born in Gunter and graduated from Sherman High School in 1942. She worked in banking and is a housewife and mother.
Marion Harrold Meek was born in Tishomingo, Okla., and he graduated from Howe High School in 1941. After serving in the United States Navy, he began working in the refrigeration and air conditioning field, eventually opening Meek Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Odessa in 1959. He retired from the company in 1982 and the couple moved to Sherman.
The Meeks became Christians in 1942 while attending the Church of the Nazarene in Sherman. Doris Meek was the missions boxwork secretary for the Bible Missionary Church for many years, traveling abroad for several years. Marion Meek served on the church’s Bible school board. Both are now members of the Pilgrim Nazarene Church in Sherman where she served as treasurer for many years and he continues to be a trustee.
The couple’s children are Ronny Meek and his wife, Connie, and Patsy Taylor and her husband, David. They have eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren.
