Riza — 50th


J.C. and Barbara Riza of Sherman marked 50 years of marriage on Saturday. They will celebrate later this year with a Caribbean cruise, given to them by their son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Mindy Riza.

The Rizas were married Jan. 26, 1963 in Dallas by the Rev. W.E. Peterson. Maid of honor was Betty Brooks, sister of Barbara Riza. Best man was Ted Bates of Palacios.

Barbara Riza was born in Dallas, the daughter of Dallas B. and Dorothy Gray Brooks. She attended W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas and Sam Houston State University and was a teacher’s aide with the Sherman Independent School District for seven years. She is a volunteer with the Air Chapel and Grayson County Boot Camp, and is an active member of the Martha Jefferson Randolph National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving on several service committees within the organization.

J.C. Riza was born in Jacksonville, Texas, the son of Henry C. and Maxene Beckcom Riza. He attended Palestine High School and graduated from Sam Houston State University. He served in the United States Air Force on a B-52 combat crew during the Vietnam War and worked for Texas Instruments/Raytheon in Sherman, retiring as a manager after 29 years of service. He is an Eagle Scout and has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 50 years, currently serving on the Circle 10 Council BSA board.

Both are members of Sherman Bible Church.

The Rizas are the parents of Wade Riza of Ravenna and the late Todd Riza, and have two grandchildren.
