Jerome Delton and Katheryn Lorene Wright of Sherman celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a family gathering on Saturday. The couple married Aug. 18, 1942 at the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Sherman.
Katheryn Wright was born in Collinsville, the daughter of Claude B. and Velma Hainline Haralson. She attended Sherman High School, and was employed by S.H. Kress, Goetz Oil and the Grayson Count tax office. She has volunteered with the American Red Cross, at Jefferson Elementary School, the Texoma Council of Governments, and Eisenhower’s Birthplace, and was treasurer for the American Association of Retired persons.
Jerome Wright was born in Sherman, the son of Charles C. and Nettie Pierce Wright. He attended Denison High School and the University of Oklahoma. He served as a B-24 bombardier in the Pacific during War Wor II and served in the United States Air Force until his retirement as a lieutenant colonel. He was employed by Texas Electric and LTV.
Both are members of the Wood Street Church of Christ and have volunteered at the Sherman Public Library. They have lived in 10 different states and three countries.
The Wright’s children are Col. Jerry Wright (USAF, Ret.) and his wife, Ruth, of Yorktown, Virginia and Donna J. White and her husband, Larry, of Sherman. There are five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
