Swashbuckling action will take over the Finley Theater stage when the Sherman Community Players production of The Three Musketeers opens this Friday. The theater is located at 500 N. Elm in Sherman.
Written by Ken Ludwig, the play is a new adaptation to the classic novel written by Alexandre Dumas. Set in 1625, but told in a modern “steam punk” concept, the story begins with D’Artagnan (the fourth musketeer) setting off for Paris in search of adventure, romance and wisdom. The story continues to unfold to include action-filled sword fights, heroes, villains and everything that makes the musketeers timeless favorites.
Work on the play began in November when actors started training in sword fighting and other critical aspects of the production. Anthony Nelson is directing the production and Dave Burford is serving as the fight director.
“Having been in rehearsals since the beginning of November, this all-volunteer cast of 21 has been extremely dedicated and enthusiastic about bringing this production to fruition. And they are becoming experts at the art of stage combat,” says Nelson.
Performances are set for 8 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16 and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 3, 10 and 17. Tickets for season members go on sale this Monday and Tuesday.
