Veterans from the Bonham VA will be special guests this Friday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2773 in Denison. The group will be treated to hamburgers and Bingo games.
Democratic Women of Fannin County
BONHAM — The Democratic Women of Fannin County will meet Aug. 27 in the Elizabeth May room at the American Bank of Bonham. Refreshments will be served, starting at 6:30 p.m., and the session begins at 7 p.m.
Speakers for the evening will be Walter Maroney, candidate for precinct commissioner, Michele Petty, candidate for the Texas Supreme Court, and Valinda Hathcox, candidate for the U.S .House of Representatives.
The group’s July 23 meeting featured guest speaker Butch Henderson.
Grayson County Rotary Club
Sandy Forster, Rotary District 5810 Governor, made her official visit to the Grayson Rotary Club at its meeting this week.
Forster is a member of the Garland Rotary Club. She noted that Rotary is changing based on comments made about the organization by non-Rotarians and challenged the club to be ready for those changes. Forster shared why she became involved in Rotary and why she has remained so. Among her examples ws a doctor who noticed her Rotary pin and thanked her. The doctor had received a Rotary Club scholarship years earlier, helping her to attend school. She stressed that Rotary “touches people” and “changes lives.” She urged members to share Rotary with others.
Welcomed as guests to the meeting were Austin Everett, Corinna Cape and Joshua Cape. Also visiting were Joe Fallon of the Sherman Rotary Club, David Vilberg of the Dallas Rotary Club, and Matt Sullivan of the Hurricane Creek Rotary Club.

Whitewright American Legion
WHITEWRIGHT — The Whitewright American Legion Post 225 will hold its monthly Trades Days Aug. 24-26.
This month’s event will feature a free raffle and give-away for customers and vendors. Free raffle tickets will be available during the trades days, and the drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 26. Prizes will include get-away packages to local and Louisiana casinos, baseball tickets, and dining gift certificates.
The American Legion has partnered with a Collin County Food Bank to provide free food to families and individuals in need. The food will be delivered the afternoon of Aug. 25 and will be distributed that afternoon and the following day. No paperwork or identification is required.

Texoma THORS
The Texoma Herb and Old Rose Society will meet at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25 at Frontier Village inside Loy Lake Park in Denison. The session is free and open to the public.
Louisa Martin will present the “Rose of the Month,” and Sue Malnory will bring the “Herb of the Month.” Presenting a program on perennials will be DArlene Cottier, president of the Grayson County Master Gardeners.
A covered dish luncheon will follow the program. All attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Beverages will be provided by Lacey Price.
Bryan County Democratic Women
DURANT, Oklahoma — The Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women’s (BCFDW) will meet on Aug. 21. The sessioni begins at noon at Sports City Cafe in Durant. It is open to the public.
Wyota Hannan is the program chairperson. Rob Wallace and Wayne Herriman, two candidates for the Democratic nomination for the Oklahoma House, will speak briefly and answer questions concerning their platforms. The run-off election is Aug. 28. Also speaking will be Barbara Nicholson, a BCFDW member who volunteers at the state level in monitoring elder-care facilities, will discuss ballot questons coming up for vote in November.
