FORT JACKSON, S.C. — Cody Griffin, 21, of Denison recently graduated from the U.S. Army’s basic training program at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was a member of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment. He will now report to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. where he will join Charlie Company, 58th Transportation Corps, 3rd Chemical Regiment, for his Advanced Individual Training.
During the 10-week course, Griffin was undefeated in six training matches of hand-to-hand combat. He received an outstanding grade in the Army Physical Fitness Test, was medaled as an expert in grenade accuracy and as a marksman in basic rifle marksmanship. He also received the American Defense Service Medal upon his graduation.
Griffin is the grandson of Lt. Col. Buddy and Carol Merrick of Denison. He graduated from Denison High School where he was a member of the Touch of Gold Marching Band, and he attended Grayson County College. He is also a member of Parkside Baptist Church in Denison.
