The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office said a local businessman shot a would-be burglar in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
Ricky Wheeler, GCSO spokesperson, said the GC dispatch received a 911 call at 3:37 a.m. Tuesday. The caller advised he had shot a burglar at a scrap metal shop in the 1400 block of East Highway 1417 in Sherman.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Sherman Police Department responded to the call. Wheeler said deputies arrived and spoke with the man who said he had shot one of two people who had attempted to burglarize the place. The man who was shot was treated on the scene by paramedics then flown to Plano Medical Center.
There he underwent surgery for a single gunshot wound and is now recovering.
The complainant was not sure if he had shot the second burglar or not. He said the man was screaming as he ran away. Deputies, Sherman police and a Sherman canine unit searched the area but to no avail.
Investigators were still on the scene at 3:30 p.m. and expected to be there most of the day Tuesday collecting evidence and taking photographs.
Wheeler said the weather hampered the investigation but investigators are confident they will be able to identify the second burglar based on the information they received from the first one.
Wheeler said once the alleged burglar who was shot is released from the hospital investigators will be seeking an arrest warrant for him.
