The Kid’s Pantry provides food to Denison kids whose families meet the income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced price lunches. The Pantry, which is a non profit organization, provides those children food during extended school holidays.
The Pantry is operated by volunteers and all contributions are tax deductible. Monetary donations are used to purchase food.
Kid’s Pantry currently has 290 children receiving food through a weekly backpack program. This program provides meals to children in need. The children are referred by school staff.
Food was provided to 78 families, a total of 243 children, during the Thanksgiving holiday and 87 families, 262 children, requested food help for the Christmas break.
Donations of food are always appreciated. Items needed include, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, spaghetti, canned pastas, soups, vegetables and juice. They also need individual food items for the backpack program including Vienna sausage, romen noodles, applesauce, fruit cups, juice, cereal, oatmeal, pop tarts, cereal bars, peanut butter or cheese crackers, fruit snacks, cookies, soups, canned pastas, easy mach and pudding snack packs.
Kind’s Pantry would also like to have a social media volunteer work to help get information about the program out to the public and to help set up a website.
