Grayson County commissioners appointed a new Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 on Tuesday. Judge James Harris has indicated his desire to retire and has set his last day on the job for Jan. 31.
Commissioners unanimously selected Frank Budra, the mayor of Pottsboro, to sit as judge for the next two years of Harris’ unexpired term.
Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum said at least nine people expressed interest in the job. “At least six of those people said they intend to run in two years for the position,” Bynum said. He said the Court didn’t want to be seen as giving anyone an unfair advantage in the election, so he sought out someone who said he wouldn’t run for the position.
“He is the municipal judge in Southmayd and has been one in Pottsboro,” Bynum said listing Budra’s qualifications for the position.
In addition, commissioners also approved:
• a request to approve renewal of various insurance policies as presented;
• a request to approve resolution to apply for the 2013 Indigent Defense Grant;
• a request to continue an economic development agreement with SEDCO and DDA for the North Texas Regional Airport;
• a request to renew the contract with Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson, LLP for tax attorney services as presented.
