A large drop-off and pick-up area in the back of Houston Elementary on Perry Avenue may alleviate some of the traffic congestion at the beginning and ending of each school day.
With the start of school just a month away, construction at Denison Independent School District’s elementary campuses is winding down.
Clean-up is expected to begin this week and the district is hoping to receive its certificate of occupancy for the elementaries’ new additions near the middle of August. After that the district’s teachers can begin to move in. Already, many of the safety fences around the campuses have been removed.
At Hyde Park Elementary, the exterior masonry is complete, as is the drywall and first coat of paint. The finish carpentry such as doors, window casings and trim has been installed, as well as restroom tile and partitions. The heating and air conditioning installation has begun, and ceiling tile and flooring installation is ready to begin.
At Lamar Elementary, the masonry veneer is complete as well as the drywall and first coat of paint. The initial stages of HVAC installation is complete, and ceiling tile installation is on-going. Flooring is also on-going, and kitchen quarry tile is complete.
At Mayes Elementary the masonry veneer is complete, as well as the drywall and first coat of paint. The initial stages of HVAC installation is complete as is the casework. Kitchen quarry tile and flooring installation has begun.
At Houston Elementary, the exterior concrete, which consists mostly of ADA (American Disability Act) improvements, is completed and awaiting handrails. Work on the interior restroom title is on-going and vinyl composition tile installation is expected to begin next week.
At the new high school site, the building pad is nearing completion, and storm and sanitary sewer installation is on-going. The site paving is also on-going with some sections already poured. The bidding for the building construction is expected to be Aug. 7.
The architectural firm expects to begin drawings for the additions and renovations at B. McDaniel Middle School and the new high school next week.
