The Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority Board approved an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation’s Aviation Division on Thursday for a $50,000 grant. The Routine Airport Maintenance Grant, or RAMP, is a grant the North Texas Regional Airport-Perrin Field has received regularly for the past several years.
The grant is a 50 percent match, up to the $50,000 maximum, so the airport will also chip in $100,000 to get the maximum match. NTRA Director Mike Shahan said the local portion is already included in the budget. The $150,000 total will go to repave and repair a section of the taxiway and runway on the west side of the airport where NTRA is constructing a new hangar.
Shahan said there will likely be some funds remaining after that work is done that can be used for hangar improvements at the airport. The Grayson County Commissioners Court must still give final approval to the agreement with TxDOT.
The RMA Board also approved an agreement with Kustom Kemps of America Inc. The organization has held an annual car show in Denison for a number of years, and two years ago added a drag race at NTRA to its schedule of events. The agreement between NTRA and Kustom Kemps will allow that event on a closed section of runway for a third year.
Shahan said this year, the races will be limited to cars and trucks with model years of 1969 or earlier. The races are scheduled for Sept. 29.
Finally, in his report, Shahan told the Board that the airport had a good month with increases in fuel sales and operations over the same month last year. Total operations saw a 161.63 percent increase over the same time last year, according to the report.
