The Texas Transportation Commission approved a $950,000 grant for North Texas Regional Airport-Perrin Field at its September meeting. The funds will be used for planned airport improvements, which includes: engineering and design for pavement, drainage and fencing improvements.
“This grant will help us to continue to make the needed improvements in areas of safety, security and maintenance at our airport,” NTRA Airport Director Mike Shahan said.
He said the grant requires a local match of 10 percent, or $95,000. The Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority Board is expected to consider officially accepting the grant at its next meeting.
This year, TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports. Approximately 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding.
“Grants like this allow not only us but many other communities make the needed improvements to their airports,” Shahan said. “Anytime you can receive a grant that covers 90 percent of the total cost it is a good thing for the airport and community.”
For the NTRA projects, a project consultant will be selected this winter. Project costs will be funded through Grayson County, which will fund the local portion, and TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program.
