The Whitesboro man accused of killing Grayson County Deputy Chad Key could face those charges in court as early as October. Grayson County’s court records website shows that an Oct. 14 trial date has been set for Rickey Trent Stanley Jr. in the 397th state District Court on charges that include murder, intoxicated manslaughter causing the death of a peace officer, and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Mr. Key died on April 20 at a local hospital after being struck the night before by a truck Stanley was driving. Mr. Key was directing traffic at the time he was struck.
At the time that Mr. Key was hit, police were attempting to arrest Clinton Espy, 37, of Paris. Reports from the time of the incident said police chased Espy from Silo Road in Bonham to Sherman where they stopped him. A Fannin County grand jury indicted Espy on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. His next trial date is set for Aug. 8 and he is represented by attorney Joey Fritts.
Stanley is represented by attorney Gaylon Riddles.
