Cupcakes, a local business and Twitter

What do cupcakes, a downtown Denison business and Twitter have to do with each other? Well, nothing really, but if everything goes well on Sunday evening they’ll all converge as folks fill the Rialto Theater to watch Buffy Hanson compete on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.

The news first came out in April that Hanson, owner of Buffy’s Cupcake on Main in Denison, had competed in the foodie faceoff. That competition, the results of which Hanson’s had to stay mum about, will finally air at 7 p.m. Sunday.

For those unfamiliar with this battle of small cakes, each hour-long episode has four contestants who craft unique, gourmet cupcakes. Contestants are eliminated one-by-one in three rounds. The winner gets $10,000 and the chance to have his or her creations showcased at a unique event. Sunday’s show will center around a kickoff party for the Angry Birds Space mobile app.

To watch the drama unfold and finally learn how Hanson came out in the contest, Downtown Denison Inc. is hosting a watch party at the Rialto Theater. Limited seating is available for the party and doors are expected to open at 5:30 p.m.

For those who choose to stay home to see how Hanson’s creations perform, we’d still like for you to join in the conversation on Twitter. We’ll be tweeting from our user name @heralddemocrat and using the hashtag #cupcakewars.
