The Austin College baseball team fell in both halves of its doubleheader against Occidental on Sunday, 5-3 and 11-7.
In the opener, the ‘Roos (0-4) cut the margin to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth when two runs came home on an error, but the Tigers added a run in the seventh.
Austin Vaughan went 2-for-4 to lead the ‘Roos while Blaine Tew had a solid outing on the mound, surrendering five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 62/3 innings in absorbing the loss.
In the nightcap, Mason Leech and Tyler Appelquist scored on an error at first to put the ‘Roos up 7-6 in the seventh, but Occidental plated five in the top of the eighth.
Appelquist went 3-for-5 with a double with three runs scored and Todd Takabuki went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the ‘Roos. Colt Herron took the loss in relief, surrendering five runs, three earned, in 2/3 innings.
