DURANT — Second-ranked Southeastern has earned the Central Region’s No. 1 seed and will face Winona State (Minn.) in the first round of its NCAA Division II regional, but will have to do so in Mankato, Minn., despite being the region’s highest seed.
The opener is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start on Friday.
The Savage Storm wrapped up the regular season and conference postseason with Great American Conference championships alongside a 44-7 record to earn the No. 2 ranking. The Storm beat Henderson State, 6-2, to win the GAC tournament two weeks ago.
Winona State, which is making its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and the ninth time in the last 13 seasons, is 34-12 on the season.
Third-seeded Minnesota State-Mankato will host the event and face Augustana (S.D.) at noon on May 10.
Minnesota State-Mankato posted a 38-10 record on the season, while Augustana finished the year 32-15.
A win in the opening round game will earn the Storm a noon meeting with the winner of Game 1 on Saturday and a victory in that contest would mean a slot in the title game slated for noon on Sunday.
