In just one season at Sherman, senior quarterback Dru Smith put up career passing numbers bigger than all but one Bearcat starter has ever had historically.
Smith is the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Class 3A-4A Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 3,826 yards and 39 touchdowns, both single-season school records by far.
Smith also threatened a number of Sherman career passing marks despite playing just one season in maroon and white. He finished a scant 25 yards and one touchdown pass behind the career numbers of Trey Carter.
Smith completed 225-of-326 passes, averaging 17 yards per completion, and threw only seven interceptions in leading the Bearcats to a 9-3 record and their fifth playoff appearance in a row.
