Girls Basketball Roundup — Sherman, Denison lose in district play

McKINNEY — Sa’Liesha Hunter scored 26 points for Sherman, but No. 7 McKinney North led by as much as 24 points in a 72-61 win against the Lady Bearcats on Tuesday night in District 13-4A action.

Ashley Crockett added 11 points and Brelyn Keys and Jayzhia Softly each added nine for the Lady Cats (15-11, 4-4), who dropped their second straight district contest.

The Lady Bulldogs (23-3, 8-0) outscored Sherman in each of the first three quarters, leading 40-26 at the half and 60-36 at the end of three.

Sherman will host rival Denison on Friday night.

Wylie East 60, Denison 29

Jacoya Johnson scored seven points in Denison’s district loss to Wylie East on Tuesday night.

Taylor Cummins and Jasmine Ballard added six points apiece and Stasia Dunlap had five points for the Lady Yellow Jackets (4-21, 1-7), who play at Sherman on Friday night.

District 12-3A

Melissa 56, Princeton 46

MELISSA — Whitney Taylor scored 21 points as Melissa defeated Princeton in a battle of district unbeatens on Tuesday night.

Katie Webb added 17 points and 12 rebounds while Keonni Conkle chipped in 10 points for Melissa (15-10, 3-0), which plays at Anna on Friday.

District 11-2A

Whitewright 48, Bells 47, OT

BELLS —Sydney Brummett made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Whitewright past Bells in overtime on Tuesday night.

Cassie Neel scored 15 points, Brummett added 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Anna Shope chipped in 10 points and Tucker Caraway finished with seven points for Whitewright, which hosts Howe on Friday.

Emily Fagan had 12 points and nine steals, Katie Shults scored 10 points and Carlee Shelby finished with nine points for Bells.

Howe 62, Pottsboro 37

HOWE — Riley Harvey had 19 points and four steals as first-place Howe defeated second-place Pottsboro in district action on Tuesday night.

Baleigh Hudman added 13 points, Morgan Scribner finished with 10 points and six rebounds, Katy Courtney chipped in nine points and Morgan Bailey had eight points, six steals and four rebounds for Howe (20-5, 8-0).

Tom Bean 49, Whitesboro 46

WHITESBORO — Maddi Cavender scored 13 points as Tom Bean edged Whitesboro in district action on Tuesday night.

Katie Jones added 11 points, Ronni Trentman grabbed 10 rebounds and Sarah Henderson chipped in eight points and four rebounds for Tom Bean.

Gunter 50, Leonard 40

GUNTER — Regan Hestand had 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals as Gunter defeated Leonard in district action on Tuesday night.

Rachel Campbell added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists and Mikayla Watson scored eight points for Gunter (18-8, 7-0), which hosts Farmersville on Friday.

Kacie McCarley scored 11 points, Shelby Zumwalt chipped in 10 points and Taylor Bishop finished with eight points for Leonard (18-5, 4-3).

Sam Rayburn 62, Wolfe City 45

WOLFE CITY — Cassidy Hall scored 27 points as Sam Rayburn defeated Wolfe City in district action on Tuesday night.

Torri Pannell also had eight points and eight assists and Sarah Foreman scored eight points for Sam Rayburn (22-5, 8-0), which hosts Cumby on Friday.

Michaela Burge scored 21 points, Sarah Andrews added nine points and Cheyanne Lake finished with six points for Wolfe City, which hosts Celeste on Friday.

ECTOR — Jenna Wallace scored 18 points as Dodd City defeated Ector in a battle of first-place teams on Tuesday night.

Keeshia Thompson added 17 points while Briann Hilliard and Christi Petty chipped in eight points apiece for Dodd City (20-4, 3-0).

Cristi Abbott scored 11 points and Danyelle Huey and Tiffany Sellers finished with six points each for Ector (9-12, 2-1), which plays at Fannindel on Friday night.

SAVOY — Emily Cornell had 10 points and four rebounds in Savoy’s district loss to Roxton on Tuesday night.

Hanna White scored nine points and Jerica Isom added eight points and four rebounds for Savoy.
