Van Alstyne junior Connor Mayes participated in the U.S. Army Junior Combine last week in San Antonio and came out with some high marks, being named to the first-team offensive line.
Mayes, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound center, is a five-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 2 center recruit in the nation, according to Rivals.com. He already has offers from 11 schools, including the University of Minnesota, where his brother, Alex, has verbally committed.
Alex Mayes, who is also an offensive lineman, last week participated in the FBU International Games in San Antonio and was named a captain for Team USA.
