Boys Basketball Roundup — Denison gets victory over Pirates


McShane Wyatt scored 23 points as Denison opened the Sherman Holiday Invitational with a 71-63 victory against Collinsville on Thursday afternoon.

Delwin Washington added 15 points and five rebounds, Raylen Johnson chipped in 10 points, Will Parker finished with six points and Caleb Ross totaled five points, five rebounds and three assists for Denison (2-6), which will face McKinney North’s junior varsity at 10 a.m. and Mount Pleasant at 4 p.m. today as tournament action continues.

John Lewis had 19 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals, Connor Daley finished with 13 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists, Andrew Harris and Cole Bennet scored 10 points apiece and Jace Claytor finished with nine points for Collinsville (5-3), which will play Mount Pleasant at 10 a.m. and McKinney North’s JV at 4 p.m. in tournament action today.

Leonard Tournament

Leonard 62, Quinlan Ford 42

LEONARD — Nik McCain scored 20 points as the host Tigers defeated Quinlan Ford on Thursday in tournament action.

Laine Albert added 11 points and Ty McKinney chipped in seven points for Leonard.

Whitewright 35, Wolfe City 34

LEONARD — Mason Riggins scored 18 points as Whitewright edged Wolfe City in the Leonard Tournament on Thursday.

Dane Robinson added five points and Desmond McNiel and Jefferson Ballard each finished with four points apiece for Whitewright.

Malik Gaffney had 16 points to lead Wolfe City while Hunter Bostick scored 11 points.

Cooper 44, Tom Bean 39

LEONARD — Hunter Book had 12 points and nine rebounds for Tom Bean but Cooper beat the Tomcats on the first day of the Ector Tournament on Thursday.

Logan LeDane added nine points, five assists and four steals, Sheldon Roberson finished with eight points and seven rebounds and Dalton Blassingame and Nathan Shipman each scored five points for Tom Bean (6-2).

Ector Tournament

Bells 48, Ector 37

BELLS — Kyler Durham scored eight points as Bells opened the Ector Tournament with a victory over the host team on Thursday.

Colton Foster added seven points, Ian Murphy chipped in six points and Noah Straw, Derek Paveloff and Tyler Vance finished with five points apiece for Bells, which will face Boyd today at 6:20 p.m. in tourney action.

Brett Garrison had nine points while Tristan Hughes and Trent Jones chipped in eight points for Ector, which will take on Savoy today at 1 p.m.

Paris Chisum 41, Blue Ridge 38, OT

BELLS — Thomas Weatherford and Travis Jones each scored 10 points for Blue Ridge but the Tigers fell in overtime against Paris Chisum to open the Ector Tournament on Thursday.

Brevin Wiggins and Brody Worth added six points apiece for Blue Ridge, which will take on Dodd City today at 10:20 a.m. in tournament action.

Allen Tournament

Wills Point 69, Gunter 44

ALLEN — T.J. Smith scored 19 points for Gunter but Wills Point defeated the Tigers on the first day of the Allen Tournament on Thursday.

Anthony Knight had 14 points and Reid Bolin chipped in eight points for Gunter.

Gunter opened the tournament with a 79-51 loss to Allen’s junior varsity. Bolin scored 14 points, Tyler Brewer added 10 points, Smith finished with nine points and Knight totaled eight points for the Tigers (3-7), who play Krum today at 2:30 p.m. in bracket play.
