Soccer Roundup - Sherman, Bonham win in tourney finales


GEORGETOWN — Moises Sanchez scored on a shot over the keeper’s head with the deciding goal in Sherman’s 2-1 victory against Corpus Christi Calallen to close out the Georgetown Tournament on Saturday.

Manuel Gutierrez scored 18 minutes into the match before Calallen tied it six minutes later. Joseph Kahlaf totaled nine saves for the Bearcats.

In tournament action on Friday, Kahlaf made 15 saves to earn a 0-0 tie against host Georgetown. Jason Chavez had two strong scoring chances for Sherman (4-1-1), which plays at Paris on Tuesday night.

Girls Brewer Tournament

Sherman 1, FW Brewer 0, SO

FORT WORTH — The Sherman girls soccer team closed out the Bear Cave Classic with a 1-0 shootout victory against host Fort Worth Brewer on Saturday afternoon.

Madison Craig, Kate Oelfke and Paige Aleman all converted penalty kicks to get the victory for Sherman (3-4-1), which had lost four straight.

In tournament action on Friday, the Lady Bearcats lost, 3-0, against Grand Prairie.

Sherman will host Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Argyle Tournament

Bonham 3, Aubrey 0

ARGYLE — Freshman Melissa Bewley scored three goals as Bonham defeated Aubrey on Saturday for the first soccer win in school history to complete tournament play.

Jessica Smith made the all-tournament team for Bonham, which resumes play Thursday against Dallas Hillcrest to start play in the Ice Bowl Tournament in Richardson.
