Sa’Liesha Hunter may be shy off the court, but not when she has a basketball in her hands.
Sherman’s senior point guard averaged 18.7 points, 4.3 steals and 3.8 steals per game this past season, and also took 19 charges.
“She’s bashful and humble at the same time,” Lady Bearcats head coach Beth Tallant said. “When I showed her her stats on MaxPreps and how she ranked up against some of the girls in the rest of the area, she just rolled with it. She’s a great kid.”
Hunter is the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland girls basketball Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season after helping the Lady Cats (17-12) to a fourth-straight top-two district finish and bi-district playoff victory.
“I was pretty satisfied with my senior year,” said Hunter, who will also compete in the 200-meter dash, triple jump and 4x100 relay this spring. “I wish we could’ve gone farther in the playoffs, but it happens.”
Hunter, a four-year varsity starter for Sherman, signed in November with Southeastern Oklahoma State and will suit up in a Savage Storm uniform next fall.
“She’ll do amazing things and really contribute to that team,” Tallant said. “They are extremely fortunate to have someone of her caliber.”
