Veronica Sosa, Sandra Carrasco-Bueno and Madison Craig scored goals and Sami Powers had two assists as Sherman’s girls soccer team recorded a contentious 3-0 win against Anna on Wednesday night at Bearcat Stadium to stay unbeaten in District 17-4A play.
Sherman (6-9-1, 2-0) missed several opportunities to score on Anna and led 1-0 at the half despite outshooting the Lady Coyotes 10-1. Sosa scored the goal off a tap in from Powers in the 15th minute.
In the 54th minute Carrasco-Bueno finished off a volley from Powers to put Sherman up 2-0. Then a scuffle with 19 minutes left saw one Anna player and two Sherman players sent off with red cards. Even down a player, Sherman scored off Craig’s penalty kick with 17 minutes left after a handball in the box by Anna. One more player from each team received red cards.
The Lady Cats host McKinney North on Friday.
McKinney North 9, Denison 1
McKINNEY — Angel O’Brien scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute for Denison but McKinney North defeated the Lady Yellow Jackets in district action on Wednesday night.
It was the first goal of the season for O’Brien and cut the deficit to 2-1 before McKinney North scored four more times in the first half.
Denison (4-8-2, 0-2) will host Prosper in 17-4A action at 7:15 p.m. on Friday night.
Boys District 17-4A McKinney North 4, Denison 3, SO
Despite being a man down for the final 27 minutes and and behind on the scoreboard, first-place Denison rallied to force a shootout and come away with at least a point against McKinney North on Wednesday night.
Denison had a 2-1 halftime lead as Orlando Macedo assisted on goals by Marcos Sauceda and Brandt Krasovic.
When the Jackets were with 10 players, North scored to tie the match and then took a 3-2 lead with 18 minutes remaining. Macedo converted a penalty kick with 10 minutes left to pull Denison even and North missed a breakaway with just over three minutes to stayed tied.
Macedo, Krasovic, Sauceda and Chance Speigel each matched North to start the shootout but North made its fifth and final kick before Tate Perkins’ attempt went off the post.
Denison (7-3-2, 1-0-1) will travel to second-place Prosper at 7:15 p.m. on Friday night.
Sherman 2, Anna 1
The Bearcats evened their district record at 1-1 with a win over the Coyotes at Bearcat Stadium.
The Bearcats (4-7-1) will travel to McKinney North on Friday night.
